Arrested actor likely to be discharged from RGICD today
Doctors at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases (RGICD) will take a call on whether to discharge actor Darshan Toogudeepa from the hospital Friday afternoon.
The actor, arrested on charges of battering and burning his wife Vijayalakshmi with a lit cigarette, was hospitalised for what doctors said was jaundice and asthma.
RGICD Director Shashidhar Buggi said as the actor's broncho-spasms had alleviated, the dosage of intravenous steroids had been halved.
“We are substituting this with oral steroids. We will examine him Friday afternoon and decide on his discharge,” he said.
“As doctors from the Psychiatry Department of NIMHANS had written to Victoria Hospital doctors initially saying the actor needed a psychiatric evaluation, we will write to NIMHANS that they can go ahead with the evaluation,” Dr. Buggi said.
He said the letter, to be addressed to the Head of the Psychiatry Department, would be sent through the police.
“It is left to NIMHANS doctors now whether they want to examine the actor in our hospital (as it is located on the same campus) or do it in NIMHANS itself,” he said.
