More rains for Bengaluru in next two days

Heavy rains due to the effect of Cyclone Roanu that pounded the city over the last two days causing widespread damage exposing the city’s unpreparedness for the oncoming monsoons. The weathermen say heavy rains will lash the city for another two days.

“Cyclone Roanu that started off in Bay of Bengal to the north of Sri Lanka and has already hit the shores of Andhra Pradesh, is moving to the North of North East, and is only expected to get more severe on Friday evening and Saturday. This will bring heavy rains to parts of South Interior and North Interior Karnataka in the next two days,” said S M Metri, Director, Meteorological Centre, Bengaluru who added that the cyclone is expected to hit Bangladesh on May 22.

The Meteorological Department has forecast “generally cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain accompanied by thunderstorm” till May 24, and “generally cloudy sky with a possibility of rain or thunderstorm” till May 26 for the city.

Meanwhile, the city has recorded an average of 42.05 mm of rainfall, which the meteorological department categorises as heavy rainfall. In the city, Kempegowda International Airport area recorded the highest rainfall of 60.6 mm (6 cm) of rainfall, while the nearby Yelahanka area recorded the least of 32.4 mm of rainfall on Friday night.
