The Whitefield police arrested a 23-year-old courier delivery person on June 30 for allegedly molesting a homemaker in a posh apartment complex at Whitefield on June 23.

The accused identified as Girish is a native of Chintamani and had gone to deliver a parcel at the highly secured apartment.

The victim, who was attending to her minor son, opened the door and asked him to leave the parcel on the table and go. But the accused reportedly followed her into the bedroom and attempted to molest her. When the victim raised alarm, the accused escaped.

After recovering from the shock, the victim called her husband, who was at work, and informed him about the incident. The security was also alerted.

The police said that though the incident occurred on June 23, the victim filed a complaint with the jurisdictional police only on June 28.

Based on the complaint, the police managed to track down the accused who was working in a different company but was deputed to deliver parcels for a reputed e-commerce company.

The police said the accused has been booked for outraging the modesty of woman and remanded to judicial custody. A senior official said: “It is unfortunate that the incident occurred despite the apartment complex having round the clock security.”

This incident has shocked the residents of the apartment complex. The incident is also being discussed on social media and the need to create awareness about safety of home-alone women.
