The Cubbon Park police have detained the autorickshaw driver who reportedly clandestinely recorded the video of a model using a mobile phone camera while she was commuting in his autorickshaw near Richmond Road last Sunday.

The police took cognisance of the incident after the victim posted her ordeal on social media. The Bengaluru City police were later tagged onto the post. The autorickshaw driver has been identified as Ranjith Y.C. from Kamakshipalya.

“We will question the autorickshaw driver, apart from the complainant. We will convince her to file a formal complaint,” a senior police officer said.

According to her post on social media, the victim said she noticed a phone fall on her from roof of the autorickshaw when the vehicle went over a speed breaker. She noticed the camera was on and had recorded 17 minutes of her sitting in the autorickshaw. She raised alarm and insisted that the driver take her back to the place where she hailed the vehicle.

The driver, who was caught red-handed, apologised and demanded his mobile phone back. In a bid to snatch the phone from the victim, the driver deleted the video. The victim’s ordeal continued when a few autorickshaw drivers gathered at the spot and asked the victim to not create a scene.

With no police personnel around and no evidence of the driver’s act, the victim said she was helpless even as the driver walked away.
