The Hanumantha Nagar police have arrested Arun, a 22-year-old cook, on charges of raping a 13-year-old girl on Monday afternoon.

According to the police, Arun befriended the victim, who is his neighbour, and used to get her food for the past three to four days.

“On Monday evening, her parents, who are daily wagers, found her eating some bakery products and asked her about it. The girl started weeping and told them that Aurn had got her the food from a nearby bakery. On enquiry she revealed that Arun used to give her Rs 20 to Rs 30 every day. In a panic, the parents asked if Arun had physically harmed her, to which she responded in the positive,” said Lokesh Kumar, DCP (South).

Normally the girl used to return from school at around 3.30 pm and her parents would return later in the evening. The parents never used to give her money and always served food at home, police said.

On hearing the girl’s confession, her parents rushed to Hanumanthanagar police station and alleged that their daughter was raped by Arun, who was later taken into custody.

Both the victim and Arun were subjected to medical examination. Arun was also produced before the court. “We are now awaiting for the results of the medical examination results,” the police said.
