The Jayanagar police announced the arrest of a conman who had alleged cheated insurance agents as well as the public.
J.P. Nagar resident Krishna C. alias Bombay Krishna (40) was arrested on the complaint LIC agent Guruprasad who said Krishna had cheated him of Rs.2.1 lakh.
Krishna opened accounts in various banks and with their chequebooks, posed as the owner of a finance company. He then lured gullible people in and around Bangalore, Mandya and Tumkur promising them personal loans and got blank cheques from them on the pretext of surety.
Thereafter, he earned a few LIC agents’ confidence by purchasing LIC policies. He then used the cheque leaves collected from people, write an amount and tell the LIC agents he was in dire need of money. When they encashed the cheques, he would disappear.
Killed for property
An autorickshaw driver, who was allegedly set on fire by his relative over a property row four days ago in Vijayanagar, died on Friday. Anjanappa (48), a native of Chickballapur, was embroiled in a feud over four acres of ancestral land. On March 12, his cousin Gangadhar had a heated argument over the issue. Gangadhar returned, only to come later in the evening and poured petrol on Anjanappa through the window and set fire to it before fleeing .
Annjannappa, who had 75 per cent burns, breathed his last on Friday morning.
Chain snatched
A woman lost her chain worth over Rs. 1 lakh in Jayanagar on Thursday night. Jalajakshi had gone to a nearby shop with her husband when two men followed them in an autorikshaw and sped away after snatching her chain.
