A crucial meeting of managements of private engineering colleges is scheduled to be held here on Saturday to discuss the issue of “collection of other fees” that is plaguing students admitted under the government quota.
Secretary of the Karnataka Unaided Private Engineering Colleges Association (KUPECA) M.K. Panduranga Shetty said managements had convened a meeting at R.V. Teachers College Auditorium in Jayanagara 2 Block in the city to interact with parents and arrive at a solution.
The meeting assumes significance as several colleges are yet to upload the break-up of the extra fee they are charging students, despite the government setting August 15 as the deadline for the managements to do so.
Strict action
Meanwhile, Rajneesh Goel, Principal Secretary, Higher Education, said colleges which do not upload the details will have to face strict action and admissions made under the management quota would not be approved. There has so far been no consolidated information regarding the number of colleges that have uploaded the information.
Principal of Acharya Institute of Technology, H.D. Maheshappa, said that while the college charges about Rs. 33,000 as extra fee, it has made Rs. 13,000 of this amount optional for students. “This extra fee is for soft skills training and the like. We have communicated our fee break-up to the Karnataka Examinations Authority and the Directorate of Technical Education by email as of now,” he said.
Meanwhile, many colleges that are yet to upload the details indicated that they were waiting for the meeting convened by the KUPECA on Saturday to clarify their doubts regarding the matter in the presence of parents.
It is expected that colleges that are yet to upload details will do so over the weekend. “We are waiting for the meeting on Saturday following which we will upload all the information online,” said B.G. Sangameshwara, principal, Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering, Mysore.
