In a rare move, the Department of Pre-University Education (DPUE) has written to the State government asking withdrawal of recognition to two private unaided PU colleges for running integrated programmes for PU classes and providing coaching for competitive exams.

The government is yet to take a final call on AECS Magnolia Maaruti PU College in Kammanahalli and FIITJEE at HSR Layout, as integrated PU colleges is a ‘grey’ area.

An earlier inquiry report, that was accessed by The Hindu, revealed that both colleges also did not meet the minimum requirement of 25,000 sq.ft. to run a PU college as per the Karnataka PU Education (Academic, Administration) Rules 2006.

Officials plan to set up teams to inspect more PU colleges. This prompted several integrated PU colleges to stop enrolling students for integrated classes.

One of them is Vidyavardhaka PU College. A source in the college said, “It was a tough call to take as most students who are pursuing science want a college that has both PU and coaching for competitive exams.”
