“It is the quality and standard of films that matters, not the quantity.”

This was the message given by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to the Kannada film industry at the inaugural function of the 7th edition of the Bengaluru International Film Festival (BIFFes) on Thursday.

Expressing concern over the falling quality of Kannada films, in the presence of hundreds of delegates, the Chief Minister announced formulation of a Kannada Film Policy, which he said would help lift the sagging image of Kannada cinema. He said he would consult all those concerned before formulating the policy, which would guide the film industry for the next five years.

Mr. Siddaramaiah said a permanent ‘BIFFes Cell’ would be set up at the Chalanachitra Academy, which would work round-the-year to make BIFFes a world-class festival, besides getting the much-needed international accreditation.

On the demand for having a permanent venue for BIFFes on the lines of Goa, Kolkata and Delhi, Minister for Information Roshan Baig said a convention centre would be developed near the international airport. “Six multiplexes would be developed there to screen films. They will be reserved for BIFFes during the event,” he said.
