After several deadlines to rid the city roads of potholes expired, Bangalore city in-charge Minister Ramalinga Reddy on Friday promised that all the major roads in the city would completely be relaid by January next.
“The process of filling potholes has commenced and the latest technology has been adopted,” the Minister told presspersons here. He said the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) was on the job. He said that the potholes on major roads would be filled over the next 20 days.
Mr. Reddy said major roads in the city had not been relaid in the last five years, and when the Congress came to power, the monsoon had begun. Continuous rains till last week prevented the BBMP as well as the government from upkeep of roads resulting in the present dire status, the Minister said.
The BBMP budget too has recently been approved by the government and hence it took some time to go ahead with repair works, Mr. Reddy said. The budget had made provisions of Rs. 100 crore for repairs and Rs. 300 crore for ward-wise works. The entire amount would be used for repair works, he said.
