The city police has an admirable resolution: to ensure safety of all women, beginning with the New Year’s eve celebrations. They are using multiple means to ensure that there are no incidents of violence against women.
While they have already intensified patrolling in the central business district, the other divisional police are using innovative methods, including flash mobs, to create awareness about violence against women and its serious repercussions.
They have sought the help of non-governmental organisations and self-help groups to stage street plays and awareness programs every day in busy public places across the city.
The focus of these activities is to prevent crimes against women, pointed out Rohini Sepat, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East).
Though there are various issue, such as how to prevent chain snatching and attention diversion cases, violence against women will take centre stage, added another senior police officer, who is supervising the awareness programmes.
Apart from stepping up patrolling at public places, police personnel have also been deployed at schools and colleges to ensure safety of girl students.
