Representatives from 15 villages adjacent to the severely polluted, and constantly frothing, Bellandur and Varthur lakes will gather next month to press for a long-term solution to their woes.
At a meeting between experts and residents held at Varthur recently, it was resolved that the representatives would meet on February 22 to put together a petition — to be signed by locals as well as students in the area — that will be presented to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
The petition will seek the removal of silt and sludge from the lakes, and press for faster construction of sewage treatment plants in the areas.
