CII summit: norms for teacher education to be tightened

The National Council for Teacher Education, the premier body to monitor planned and coordinated development of teacher education system, has initiated measures to tighten norms.

Speaking at the National Summit on Quality in Education, hosted by the CII Institute of Quality, P. Revathi Reddy, Regional Director, said NCTE (Recognition Norms & Procedure) Regulations, 2014 has enhanced the duration of teacher education programmes. “Increasing the duration will help in producing better quality teachers,” she said. The council was planning to integrate e-governance to monitor teacher educational institutes, she added.
