CID hopes to look forleads in M.M. Kalburgi murder case.

A special team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) from the State is likely to leave for Maharashtra to question Virendra Tawde, who has been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the murder of rationalist Narendra Dabholkar, to look for links or leads in the writer M.M. Kalburgi’s murder case.

Sources in the CID said that from the preliminary information they had gathered, Dr. Tawde was linked to Goa-based Sanatan Sanstha and was a follower of Sarang Akolkar, an accused in the 2009 Goa blast case and was on the run since then.

A ballistic report by the CID had tied up the weapons used in the assassinations of Dabholkar, Govind Pansare and Kalburgi. Country-made pistols used to shoot down Dabholkar and Kalburgi were used in the murder of Pansare.

However, CID found precious little while interrogating another alleged Sanatan Sanstha activist Sameer Gaikwad arrested by Maharashtra police in connection with the murder of Pansare. CID sleuths were working on the lead that hitmen or “sadhakas” executed the assassination of Kalburgi in August 2015. “Sadhakas”, CID sources said, were a part of the Sanatan Sanstha.
