Church Street blast: police expand crime scene

Footage from 42 CCTV cameras are being analysed

January 05, 2015 01:34 am | Updated 01:34 am IST - Bengaluru:

The city police probing the Church Street blast has expanded the crime scene to look for more leads and are analysing footage from 42 CCTV cameras installed on roads leading to the street.

The police have indentified six instances of suspicious activity from the footage so far. The footages are being compared to those provided by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) of Madhya Pradesh SIMI module sightings in Chennai, Vellore, Pune, Bijnor and Karimnagar.

A senior official said that a special software was being used to determine whether the men in both the footages were the same. However, the officials claim that has been no major breakthrough in the case yet. Moreover, the CCTV images collected from the city are hazy and the police are using image enhancement technology for clearer visuals.

“Most of the suspects the police zeroed in on initially turned out to be employees and vendors working in the area. Their involvement was ruled out after a detailed probe,” a senior police officer said. “Though we have prepared around six sketches of the suspects, we are yet to corroborate them with the other evidences,” he said.
