Subhro Kamal Mukherjee, Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court, retired on Monday after serving in various capacities for about two-and-a-half years in the High Court.

However, there was no customary farewell ceremony as the High Court had not arranged the ceremony by inviting Karnataka State Bar Council’s representative to deliver the customaryfarewell address.

According to sources in the legal fraternity, the High Court has apparently not arranged the farewell ceremony after a small group of advocates had, on October 3, stalled the proceedings in the Chief Justice’s court hall by claiming that the council had taken such a decision though there was no signed resolution.

Meanwhile, a meeting of the office bearers of the Advocates’ Association, Bengaluru, too had decided to not to arrange a traditional farewell function on behalf of the association.

Born on October 10, 1955, Justice Mukherjee was elevated as a judge of the High Court of Calcutta in 2000 and was transferred to the Karnataka High Court on April 15, 2015.

He served as acting Chief Justice of the High Court from June 1, 2015, till he was appointed Chief Justice on February 23, 2016.
