Chennai region sees 93.87% passes

With a pass percentage of 93.87, Chennai region — which Karnataka is a part of — bagged the second spot in the Central Board of Secondary Examination (CBSE) Class 12 examinations. This is an increase of 1.27 percentage points compared to last year’s 92.6%.

As many as 69,255 students from the Chennai region appeared for the exam, of which 65,010 passed. Trivandrum region, which bagged 97.32% passes, was at the top. Chennai region’s pass percentage is however higher than the overall pass percentage of 83.01.

A total of 9.18 lakh students of the 11.06 lakh who appeared for examination cleared the exam. Students from 11,510 schools wrote the test at 4,145 centres across the country.

A press release by the board said that 88.31% of girls who wrote the board exam cleared it. The pass percentage of boys was comparatively lower at 78.99. Around 87.52% of the differently-abled candidates passed the test. Kendriya Vidyalaya schools with 97.78% passes fared the best when compared with other CBSE schools.

The top three positions were shared by nine students across the country, but none of the students from Karnataka made it to this list.

The board stated that as many as 12,737 students scored above 95%, while 72,599 students scored over 90%. Students this year had to appear for the economics re-examination after a paper leak was reported.
