The Union Ministry of Women and Child Development has urged the Bengaluru police to act against the management of a playschool in Bellandur where allegedly several instances of child sexual abuse took place. The playschool is no longer open.

Seven cases of child sexual abuse were reported in February after which parents protested police inaction and the lack of ‘stringent action’ against the school management. Last week, one of the parents approached the ministry and urged officials to initiate action against the school management. Following up, the MWCD tweeted: “We have asked the Commissioner of @BlrCityPolice to initiate immediate action for alleged child sexual abuse.”

Police Commissioner Praveen Sood responded that the relevant charges were added against the school management and that the investigation is almost complete.

One of the parents, who lodged a complaint, said, “We are glad that we are being heard across India. We are now really hopeful to see some action against the authorities who took the responsibility of ensuring the safety of our children.”
