Some members of the central team, which assessed the situation in the Cauvery basin over the last three days, took a break on Sunday morning to visit the Lalbagh Botanical Gardens here for a brief while before heading back to Delhi in the afternoon.
Sources said that the members, including Chief Engineer K.C. Jacob, arrived in the gardens at 9.20 a.m. The visit was informal and not part of the official engagement, the sources said.
“There was no official intimation to us about the team’s arrival so no formal arrangements were made. They were there for about 20 minutes,” a senior official at Lalbagh told The Hindu .
The team took a whirlwind tour of the gardens in their own vehicles, the official said and added that Mr. Jacob was taken to the Glass House, the lake and the Rose Garden.
Meanwhile, though the team members planned to visit Bannerghatta Zoological Park later in the day, police sources said that the visit was called off.
However, sources in the protocol section in the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms said that they had only made arrangements for their stay and did not have any idea about the team itinerary.
