The Central Crime Branch (CCB) police have arrested six persons who had evaded them during the preventive detention exercise carried out earlier in the wake of elections.
The arrests come close on the heels of the arrest of Brigade Azam, who was spotted with Home Minister K.J. George and Information Minister, R. Roshan Baig while they were campaigning for the Congress candidate for Bangalore Central constituency, Rizwan Arshad on Tuesday. The police later arrested Azam and remanded him to judicial custody.
The issue not only provided fodder for the Opposition, but also raised doubts over the preventive arrests of anti-social elements carried out by the police across the city.
The Organised Crime Wing of the CCB zeroed in on Mohamed Zabiulla (27), Yogesh (27), and Chandra Kumar (29), who, according to the police, were planning to attack their rival gang in Vijaynagar.
The police said, the trio have several pending cases against them at the Taverekere and Vijaynagar police stations.
While the CCB sleuths managed to nab the trio, the gang leader Ashoka alias Kutti, along with his associate Dayanand, managed to get away, police said.
Meanwhile, another team of the CCB arrested Mohammed Asif, Nadeem and Sadiq Khan, on the charge for attempt to robbery.
Two others identified as Imran and Noor have been absconding and the police are trying to trace them. Asif, Nadeem and Sadiq have several cases against them in various police stations and are listed as rowdies in the K.G. Halli police station.
