‘But ensure that morale of students is not affected’

Several city-based schools affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) have sent letters and messages to parents of students who have taken their board examinations this year. They have asked parents to put off travel plans and ensure that the morale of students is not affected.

The board on Wednesday had declared that Class X students will have to appear for the mathematics examination again while Class XII students will have retake the economics paper. Both papers were allegedly leaked.

Dakshayini Kanna, Principal, Harvest International School, in a message to parents said they should encourage children to play, practice music or dance, take them for a short weekend outing and keep them relaxed and happy. “While it is very difficult to accept the fact and convince the children that they need to write the examination once again, we all know that there is no other option. Rather than talking to them about how unfair it is, it would be good if we can encourage them to work towards the same in a systematic manner, a couple of hours daily and get them into activities which they really like,” she said in the letter. She also added that teachers would be happy to help students.

A parent whose child studies in National Public School, Koramangala said that the school management had requested them to shelve their travel plans till the re-examination is over and return to Bengaluru at the earliest if they have already begun their holiday.

Manila Carvalho, Principal, Delhi Public School, Bengaluru East, in a letter to parents, said that while it is natural to feel ‘frustrated or depressed’, she said that there is a need for students to come to terms with the situation in the shortest possible time. There is no point in brooding over things which are beyond our control. “Let the next preparation be structured, but interspersed with relaxation, without any force to get back to studies immediately,” she said.
