Various organisations held protests across Bangalore on Thursday against the Cauvery River Authority’s directive to Karnataka to release 9,000 cusecs of Cauvery water per day to Tamil Nadu.
Karnataka Rakshana Vedike president T. Narayana Gowda led the protesters at Attibele on Hosur Road and detained vehicles entering the State from Tamil Nadu. Addressing the public, Mr. Gowda asked how the Centre could order the release of water for agricultural operations in Tamil Nadu when Karnataka was facing severe drinking water shortage, and threatened a blockade of all roads leading to Tamil Nadu.
The police arrested Mr. Gowda and his associates. They were released later.
Members of the Samata Sainik Dal assembled under the leadership of its president M. Venkataswamy and raised slogans against the directive during their protest in front of Town Hall.
Members of the Tipu Sultan Samyukta Ranga demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during their protest at the Mysore Bank Circle. Members of the Karnataka Yuva Rakshana Vedike held a protest at the Dhobi Ghat Circle in Rajajinagar.
