The eight-member legal team defending Karnataka’s interests in the Cauvery water sharing dispute has once again offered to quit in the face of the recent spate of legal setbacks in the case suffered by the State.
Speaking to The Hindu on behalf of the team, which is led by veteran lawyer Fali S. Nariman, advocate Mohan Kataraki said on Tuesday, “We want to clarify to the people [of Karnataka] that we are not hanging on the brief. We are willing to quit any time.”
The team was appointed in 1990 by then Chief Minister Veerendra Patil. “Since then [1990] there is a standing offer from our side to quit. It is up to the State government to decide. We just want to make this clarification to the people of Karnataka,” Mr. Kataraki said.
