A month on, the families of those who died in last month's Carlton Towers fire have castigated investigating agencies for not involving eyewitnesses in the ongoing probe. The bereaved relatives, who have now formed Beyond Carlton, a group to fight for justice, alleged that the agencies concerned have ignored even those injured in the tragedy while preparing their reports.
Speaking to presspersons here on Monday, Uday Vijayan, father of Akhil Uday who died along with eight others, said the victims had not received any compensation from the Government.
“We came to know that the State Government had announced a compensation to dependents and relatives of the victims,” said Mr. Vijayan, who took the initiative to form Beyond Carlton. Except in the initial days of the fire accident, no organisation, NGO or government agency, contacted the victims' and their families. The State should take action against the accused in the case.
Beyond Carlton members are holding an inter-faith memorial service on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at the Carlton Towers in memory of those who perished in one of Bangalore's worst fires.
