A car driver shot himself to death in his house at Basaveshwara Layout, Sanjay Nagar on Saturday night reportedly over a family dispute. Among other things, police are investigating how and why he acquired the country made pistol.

The deceased, Vasudeva (41), was working for an industrialist. He was married for 20 years and had two daughters. His elder daughter was married eight months ago. Police sources say that Vasudeva had not reported to work on Saturday and was at home all day.

“He had a bitter tiff with his wife and was drinking all day in his house. In the evening, he locked up his wife and his second daughter in the bedroom before shooting himself in the head. Neighbours rushed to the house and let the family members out,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) T.R. Suresh. He added that Vasudeva had no criminal record.
