Traffic on the busy Mysuru Road was disrupted on Friday morning due to a breach in a major storm water drain near Gopalan mall in R.R. Nagar.

Water gushed on to the road, choking traffic even as BWSSB, BBMP and BDA officials rushed to repair the breach. The Byatarayanapura traffic police went on radio, social media and sent SMSes to advise motorists to take alternative routes.

Motorists diverted

Vehicles coming from Kengeri were diverted to the Bangalore University Road and other motorists wishing to move towards the south were asked to proceed via R.R. Nagar, a senior police officer said.

Officials expect the situation to be brought under control by Saturday morning.

However, hundreds of motorists, who were unaware of the development, were stranded on the road for several hours.
