Boys die after consuming chemical at birthday party

The birthday party of a nine-year-old boy turned tragic after he and his best friend died after consuming a chemical mistaking it to be a cool drink.

The deceased is Sahil Shankar, son of Shankar, a gold and silver merchant in Kilari Road in City Market.

According to the police, after Sahil cut the cake, he and his friend Arjun Singh, son of Sanjay Shankar, went to play. They found a bottle of chemical in the store room along with the cool drinks. Mistaking it to be a cool drink, they consumed it. They collapsed after puking.

The duo was rushed to Victoria Hospital where they succumbed later. The police said that Shankar had bought the chemical to polish the gold and silver valuables.

The police said Shankar and Sanjay Singh hailed from UP and are close friends.
