Commuters travelling in the western parts of the city will be seeing a larger number of 32-seater, or MIDI, Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) buses. These will connect Nagarbhavi, Jnanabharati, Hampinagara, Banashankari, Chandra Layout and Vijayanagara.
Out of 10 schedules, four are metro feeder routes connecting Banashankari to Vijayanagara. Around 200 new buses have been deployed on these routes.
At present, a little over 100 schedules are being operated in areas along the East-West corridor of Namma Metro. Once the North-South corridor is operational, another 110 schedules will be added to metro feeder routes.
“We have been deploying buses as and when we take delivery. Around 500 MIDI buses will be acquired by BMTC and these will mostly operate on metro feeder routes. Some will act as feeder for our other services, like the Big 10, too,” said Ekroop Caur, Managing Director, BMTC.
The opening of the North-South line of Namma Metro will connect the southern areas of the city. With 5 lakh people expected to take the metro by the end of 2017, feeder services will play a key role in ensuring connectivity to metro stations, officials say.
