A joy-ride to see the fog over Nandi Hills turned fatal for a man after the bike he was travelling in collided head-on with a lorry (tipper) at Yemalarahalli near Devanahalli on Tuesday morning.

Around 6.30 a.m., Rakhi and two of his friends, Chiranjeevi and Rakesh, were travelling on a bike towards Nandi Hills. Four other friends on two motorcycles were following them. Due to the heavy fog that had descended on the area, the men could not see a lorry that was approaching in the opposite direction. While Rakhi died on the spot, two others suffered simple injuries, said Vishwanathapura Police.

Rakhi, from Andhra Pradesh, was working as a sales executive in the city. Police officers said the rush towards Nandi Hills had increased as hundreds rode early morning to see the fog-enveloped hills. “The problem is that many drive fast, and the narrow road is undivided. It would be difficult to spot fast approaching vehicles,” the police said.

The lorry driver has been arrested.
