A day after eight-year-old Anandi Krishna was allegedly electrocuted in the M.S. building slum quarters in Kalasipalya, Bescom has pinned the blame on the BBMP.
A release sent by the power utility on Thursday said the streetlight pole is a “MS tubular type in which the live portion of the electrical wire at the junction box situated at the bottom of the pole was touching the streetlight pole”.
The class two student of Chamarajpet Government School was electrocuted when she touched the wire accidentally while playing. The residents had alleged that they had complained to Bescom about the dangerous wire twice, but in vain.
“It is clarified here that Bescom is not responsible for this unfortunate accident. If citizens notice any streetlights with hazardous connections/non-functioning streetlights, they can contact the BBMP complaint centre,” the release added.
Meanwhile, Mayor N. Shanthakumari called on the family and handed over a cheque of Rs. 3 lakh. A BBMP release said, “The electrical contractor took the responsibility of paying compensation.”
