BBMP property tax: ‘problems will be sorted out in six days’

April 08, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - BENGALURU:

If you are among those seeking a rebate on property tax, but unable to make the payment online, do not fret.

The BBMP, which is facing criticism for the failure of the online payment process, is likely to extend the 5 per cent rebate beyond the April 30 deadline.

Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) M. Venkatachalapathy on Thursday said, “Our new software is working, but there are some technical problems with the help centres set up to help citizens pay online. We will sort the issue out in five or six days.” Else, the last date for the rebate would be extended beyond April 30. On the confusion over payment of higher property tax, he clarified, “People think that they have to pay 25 per cent more that what they were paying earlier. However, there are zone divisions and depreciation values for older buildings that have to be considered. In most places, the increase has been as less as two per cent.”
