The most significant demolition on Thursday was that of a few BBMP offices, including those of the ward, the engineer’s and the health officer’s, which were built over 25 years ago on a storm water drain in Srinagar.

“In several parts of the core areas, the BBMP had covered SWDs and built shops. This was one such stretch. On this particular stretch, the BBMP had built 12 shops apart from its offices. The shopkeepers have been given 15 days to vacate,” said a senior official from South Zone, BBMP.

In Doddabommasandra, the civic body demolished 20 properties on Thursday in addition to the 50 demolished on Wednesday.

“This included several shops. A mobile tower on top of a three-storey building was a big hindrance to the demolition drive. It was removed on Thursday,” said Sarfaraz Khan, Joint Commissioner, Yelahanka.

In marked contrast to the scenes on Wednesday, residents and shopkeepers seemed to have resigned themselves to their fate on Thursday. By the time, BBMP authorities started the demolition drive, most residents and shopkeepers had vacated their properties. Most had shifted out on Wednesday night.
