Even as the deadline set by the apex court for the Janata Dal (Secular) to vacate its party office at No. 3 Race Course Road in Bengaluru expired on Wednesday, the BBMP council passed a resolution to allocate 1.1 acres behind Chowdaiah Memorial Hall to the party to construct its office building.
The JD (S) had approached the BDA for land. Party supremo H. D. Deve Gowda had recently regretted that even four months after filing the application and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah promising to clear the file personally, nothing had been done.
However, the BJP-ruled BBMP came to the rescue of JD (S). The proposal was tabled by Ruling Party Leader N. R. Ramesh.
The proposal is to offer a plot for 30 years for an annual lease of Rs. 1,000.
Recalling that the then JD (S) government had helped the Congress and BJP by allocating land to build their offices, the party’s spokesperson Ramesh Babu said that the party is grateful to the BBMP.
In January 2014, the Supreme Court had asked the JD (S) to vacate its office in favour of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee.
