Smart City, an app to enable the average citizen to get across any civic-related issue as well as any crime incident to the correct authority in the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike as well as the Bengaluru Police, was launched here on Friday. It is the latest in the slew of apps managed by the BBMP but this app is meant to cover almost all areas that are within the ambit of the civic agency.

“The app has been customised according to the city’s needs and is supposed to be a step towards making Bengaluru a smart city,” said Mayor Manjunath Reddy during the launch.

“We are collating and integrating information found on social media as well as information that has been provided by the BBMP and the crime records bureau. This information, as well as any information provided by a citizen using this app, will be available for anyone with the app in real time,” said Madhu Kongwai, spokesperson of the private company which has developed the app. He added that more than 100,000 users are required to make any app, including this one, succeed.

If a person wants to report a pothole or a traffic violation, all he or she needs to do is take a picture and upload it on the app. This data will go to the server and go to the attention of the right person to rectify that particular issue. The company is taking the help of the local RTO offices as well. For now, there are broadly five subjects including emergency, garbage, civic violations, traffic, and disaster along with 11 other sub-areas under these broad subjects that are being covered within the app.
