BBMP is responsible for our plight, say residents

May 06, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:50 am IST - Bengaluru:

“Dumping of city’s waste has stopped, but we continue to suffer,” point out Mandur’s residents. After dumping was stopped, no BBMP official visited the site.

Local communities accuse the BBMP of taking no steps to treat the leachate. They allege that their borewells have been contaminated and crops have been failing due to the leachate.

Gopal Rao, resident and Mandur Gram Panchayat member, said, “The BBMP is responsible for our plight, especially the long-term affects caused by water contamination. Compensation should be worked out and the BBMP should draw up plans for rejuvenation of ground water.”
