Bangalore University has invited applications for its postgraduate programmes across all campuses, raising a question mark over when the trifurcation process will roll out.

As per a press release issued by the Registrar of the University, candidates can download applications from Thursday. The academic year will begin on August 2, while the counselling is set to start from July 24.

Although Basavaraj Rayaraddi, Higher Education Minister, had announced that the universities would be trifurcated from the 2017-18 academic year, there has been no initiative to split the varsities so far. “We have received no government orders regarding the splitting of the universities. So, we have decided to go ahead with the admission process,” a senior official of Bangalore University said.

Inadequate funds

The official added that the two new universities have not received adequate funds. “There are no new faculty members appointed and no groundwork has been done here so we do not want to cause inconvenience to the students. Our affiliated colleges also do not want the calender of events to be affected,” the source said.

However, Higher Education Department officials insist that the trifurcation would take place for the 2017-18 academic year. They say students would be admitted and later shifted to the Bengaluru (North), Bengaluru (Central) or Bangalore University. The process of trifurcation has been delayed as it has been more than 22 months since the State government issued a notification about the trifurcation of the university.
