Finding the intelligence wing of the City police not up to the mark to professionally cope with the challenges, Police Commissioner Raghavendra Auradkar has proposed a training programme to upgrade their skills.
Addressing the media at the Press Club of Bangalore on Friday, Mr. Auradkar said the intelligence wing was depending on open source like the media to gather information.
“I reviewed the working of the intelligence wing recently and found that more professionalism is needed,” he said. A training capsule that had been developed will be given to the staff to upgrade their skills, he added.
He said the City's intelligence wing needs to be more professional to prevent crime, maintain law and order and avert terror acts.
The city has around 16,000 police personnel for a population of one crore people, he said, adding that it was the lowest strength compared to other metro cities. Mr. Auradkar said the City needs at least 2,500 personnel more.
Use of technology in crime prevention and maintenance of law and order is the need of the hour. Mr. Auradkar said he would ensure that the force is used to the optimum level with a combination of technology and professional training.
