This tarpaulin-clad railway coach stationed beneath the Namma Metro's elevated track near Anil Kumble Circle on Mahatma Gandhi Road had been the object of curiosity for many a road users since June 26.

The suspense will end on Saturday when Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd., will unveil this model of the metro coach (driver-motor coach).

The model will be kept for public view till Namma Metro begins commercial operation on Reach 1, between Byappanahalli and Mahatma Gandhi Road in December this year, according to BMRCL spokesperson. A shelter has been put up to protect the coach while lighting arrangements were to be made before the public were allowed to get the feeling of the coach.

The coach is being kept on Mahatma Gandhi Road considering its central location. People may enter the coach to feel the interiors since for Bangaloreans this concept is new. Built on international standards, the coach will have row-seating facility with cosy interiors.

This coach was brought by sea from South Korea to Chennai and then transported via road to Bangalore on a heavy truck-trailer. Soon after the coach was kept at the present location, Bangalore Metro undertook landscaping work around the coach so as to offer a pleasant feeling to the visitors. While lawns have been developed around the coach, walking paths have been constructed.

The spokesperson said the first set of five trains (each train comprising three cars) will arrive from South Korea. The remaining trains will be assembled at BEML and supplied to Bangalore Metro in a phased manner. The prototype train would arrive by October-end and soon the trial run would start between Mahatma Gandhi Road and Byappanahalli, the spokesperson added.
