Auradkar had a tenure of just over a year

July 22, 2014 12:38 am | Updated 12:38 am IST - Bangalore:

Police Commissioner Raghavendra H. Auradkar, who was transferred on Monday evening, had a short tenure of just over a year. Mr. Auradkar took over as Commissioner on June 30, 2013. Being the junior-most Additional Director General of Police (1987 batch IPS), his appointment drew ire from seniors, who missed out on the opportunity of heading the City police. During his tenure, Mr. Auradkar came under intense criticism over the brutal attack of a bank employee, Jyothi Uday, in an ATM kiosk in November last year.

He was also embroiled in a controversy when his fellow officer P. Ravindranath accused Mr. Auradkar of framing him in a false case, when Ravindranath was caught clicking ‘obscene’ photos of a woman in a coffee shop. Mr. Ravindranath also lodged an atrocity case against Mr. Auradkar. Incidentally, Mr. Auradkar will take up the position vacated by the transfer of Mr. Ravindranath, that of ADGP, KSRP.

He was accused of not standing by his junior officers when they were allegedly assaulted by MLA Vijayanand Kashappanava . Mr. Auradkar said he was satisfied with his tenure as City Police Commissioner.
