Candidates, who took the Common Admission Test (CAT), on Saturday evening faced anxious moments as they were unable to access their results due to heavy traffic on the official website. CAT is the gateway to Indian Institutes of Management (IIM) and other top B-Schools.

Although the results were announced around 6 p.m., candidates were unable to access the website even late at night. The only message that students saw on their computer screens was: “Too many users are connected. Please try again after a few minutes.”

The message left several candidates frustrated. Rahul Gogia, who made a second attempt to crack the exam, said that he had been checking the website for about two hours. “Announcement of the results could have been better organised,” he said.

Some took to social networking sites to express their frustration. þ@PandeyDabangBoy tweeted “CAT 2014 Results Declared: http://www.iimcat.ac.in site not getting updated: Results for Common Admission Test”.

Since the timing had not been indicated, some candidates had been checking the home page since morning.

As many as 1.97 lakh students registered but only 1.68 lakh appeared for the exam. CAT convener Rohit Kapoor told The Hindu that 16 students had secured 100 percentile and one of them is from Bengaluru. This is double compared to last year’s results where only eight candidates bagged 100 percentile. Of the 16, one is a female candidate.

He also said that analysis of the results would be made available in a day or two.

There was a change in the exam pattern and the duration of the exam was increased from 140 minutes to 170 minutes.

Candidates are having high expectations this year as the government has announced setting up of six new IIMs in addition to the existing 13.
