Amar Chitra Katha (ACK) is coming out with a new title on Mother Teresa to mark her birth centenary which falls on August 26.

The title, a 40-page story of Mother Teresa, has been created along with the Missionaries of Charity, founded by the Nobel laureate in Kolkata. It traces how the Mother, an Albanian by birth, made India her home and from here reached out to the world, especially to children.

With this Amar Chitra Katha is launching a new title after four years.

“ACK Media is re-starting the launch of new titles in the Amar Chitra Katha series from August 2010. We will be launching a new title every two months now, with ‘Mother Teresa’ being the first one in the series”, said Savita Pai, VP-Product Management, ACK Media.

“Mother Teresa was chosen as our come-back title because of the universality of the figure and 26th August 2010, being her sentinel year was a perfect date to launch the book and take it to every kid and household for them to learn about a noble figure like Mother and learn from her great deeds”, she added.

“While creating an Amar Chitra Katha, the primary concern is authenticity. We have done intense research, not just from empirical recorded data sources and books but coupled with meetings and interviews with people who have known the Mother closely, to form the basis of the script”, said Reena Puri, Editor, Amar Chitra Katha.

The sketch style is a mix of Graphic art and ACK style.

“It took us eight months to work on the Mother Teresa title”, said Reena. The comic would be launched pan India to ensure it was accessible to all, said Ms. Savita.

On future plans, she said ACK would launch titles in various categories ranging from visionaries, historical figures, freedom fighters. Many were ready and some in the final stages.

Talking about the four year gap to bring out a new title, she said the last three years were spent in consolidating and looking at various tie ups with mobile providers and some work being done on the television format.
