November 12, 2011 08:25 am | Updated 08:29 am IST - Bangalore:

Award-winning and critically acclaimed Indian and German films will be screened at the fifth Indo-German Film Festival to be held between November 18 and 24.

This year's festival, ‘Germany and India 2011-12: infinite opportunities', has been organised as part of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Germany and the motto is ‘Two nations – a single screen'.

Inaugural film

Christoph Bertrams, Director of Goethe-Institut, told presspersons here on Thursday that German and Indian films would be screened during the festival at the Lavanya theatre on St. John's Road in Ulsoor. The festival will be inaugurated by Dada Saheb Phalke Award winner and distinguished cinematographer V.K. Murthy on November 18 at 6 p.m., following which the award-winning German film Almanya will be screened.

“The festival has been organised with an aim to showcase the cream of German and Indian feature films, including Kannada films and children's films, besides providing a platform for cineastes and members of the film industry to interact. A delegation of German and Indian film directors, producers and actors will participate.” After the film screenings, ‘Meet the director' sessions will also be held, which will be moderated by filmmaker Vasanth Mokashi.

Manu Chakravarthy, member of the local organising committee, said the festival was a cultural negotiation between Germany and India.

Also part of the festival is a seminar, ‘Future of films in the digital age', with focus on animation, which will be held at the Max Mueller Bhavan on November 19 from 1.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m.

Four children's films, two Indian and two German, will be screened in the mornings. Schools may send their students to the festival. To register, schools may call G. Venkataswamy on 7353138749.
