A father clubbed his alcoholic son to death and later administered electric shocks to the body to make it appear like death due to electrocution in Vaddahalli in Chickballapur district near here on Sunday.
The crime came to light on Monday when the victim’s parents were arranging for the cremation with unusual hurry. Locals, smelling something fishy, called the Chintamani Rural police who detained the couple and their older son. The three are reported to have confessed to the crime.
Pestering for money
Ashwanth Reddy (50), a farmer, and his wife Nagarathnamma (45) told the police their son Chandrasekhar Reddy (25) was making their life unbearable by coming home drunk and pestering for money.
On Sunday, he had come home drunk as usual, started fighting and demanded money from his parents. Police said a fed up Ashwath Reddy clubbed him to death and later wrapped a live wire around his body.
“We were discussing our older son’s marriage when Chandrasekhar started abusing us for not getting him married. When I told him he was unemployed and alcoholic, he abused us and beat up his elder brother when he intervened,” the father reportedly told the police.
He told the police he had secured a loan of Rs. 8 lakh for him for a business venture which he had splurged on alcohol and gambling. “We are still repaying the loan.”
The Chintamani police have arrested the couple and their son on charges of murder.
