With the Union Government giving its nod to allow tests for A(H1N1) in private laboratories, Narayana Hrudayalaya has come forward to set up a laboratory on its premises.

Revealing this to presspersons here on Monday, I.R. Perumal, Principal Secretary (Health and Family Welfare), said the hospital submitted a formal proposal to the State Government on Monday.

We will forward the proposal to the Union Government after which the officials will inspect the hospital to check if it meets the specifications. This may take time as the prescribed procedure has to be followed, he said.

Although a few private diagnostic centres are making enquiries with us, none of them have submitted any proposals. Three private laboratories in Mumbai have shown interest and the process of permitting them to conduct the tests has begun, Mr. Perumal said.

V. Ravi, head of Neuro-Virology Department in NIMHANS, said the Union Government would tie up with interested private laboratories for tests.
