Members of the African community in Bengaluru formally identified the body of the Nigerian who died under suspicious circumstances in Byrathi on March 13.

They submitted a written statement to investigating authorities informing that the deceased is Ifeanyi Madu, a 35-year-old from Anambra, Nigeria.

According to the police, Madu was a resident of Horamavu Agara and was briefly employed in a restaurant named Nancy's Kitchen in Horamavu. His family has been informed, officials said.

"The family members will have to give a no-objection certificate through the embassy after which the post-mortem examination can be conducted," a senior police officer said.

Police say Madu died in a bike accident and are looking for the man driving the two-wheeler.

"We are examining CCTV footage from the accident spot and we are also looking for clues about his friend who fled the spot," the officer said.
