AAP members try to dump garbage at BBMP headquarters

Alleging that the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike and the State government were doing nothing to solve the city’s garbage problem, the State unit of the Aam Aadmi Party planned to dump garbage inside the BBMP headquarters, as a symbolic gesture of protest, here on Saturday. However, around 40 party members were detained before they could reach the premises.

“We decided to then try and dump the garbage in groups,” said a volunteer, adding that villagers from Mandur were also present and detained in the Halasooru police station.

The volunteers managed to dump a bit of garbage outside the gate near the Unity Building entrance. By 1 p.m. the Mayor called some of the representatives for a meeting and tried to say that the civic agency was doing its best. However, raised voices led to an argument and the leaders were thrown out of the chambers. “We are waiting to see what to do, almost half our members have been detained in the police station,” said another volunteer.
