Privately funded skywalk opens on Outer Ring Road

August 02, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:33 am IST - BENGALURU:

A skywalk over the busy Outer Ring Road in Bellandur was opened to the public on Monday. It was built at a cost of Rs. 4.7 crores. It was a joint project involving over 30 firms in the EcoSpace and PriTech Technology Parks along with the BDA, BESCOM, BWSSB and Bangalore Traffic Police.

Seventeen months ago, the 30 companies had joined hands under the umbrella of the Outer Ring Roads Companies Association (ORRCA) to come up with a solution to solve the traffic problems on the busy road and the threat to pedestrian safety. Over 25,000 people cross the road in front of EcoSpace at Bellandur at different points during rush hour.

“This was a unique project. It was funded by corporate companies and executed under BDA guidance. It will help smooth flow of traffic on ORR while ensuring pedestrian safety. More such initiatives are being planned in future,” said Captain Poornpargana G.A., Honorary President, ORRCA.
