Bengaluru: The Banaswadi police on Friday arrested a private firm employee, James, in connection with the molestation of a woman in Kammanahalli on January 1. This makes him the fifth person to be arrested in this case. The four others, including the men in the scooter, were nabbed on Thursday.

James was picked up from a relative’s house where he was laying low hoping to evade the police. “He, along with his friend Pappu, who is absconding, went into hiding soon after the incident. Both were part of the gang that witnessed Ayappa and Lenin assaulting the woman,” said the police.

Meanwhile, Ayappa, Lenin, Sudesh and Chinnu were produced in court and taken into police custody for five days.

The woman identified her attackers, but refused to record her statement or lodge a complaint. "We are trying to convince her to help us so that strict action can be taken against the culprits," a senior police officer said.
