A 39-year-old manager of a jewellery showroom in Mysuru on Wednesday tried to foist a false complaint of abduction upon his employer after the showroom management found out the theft of three gold chains that he had allegedly committed.

The Vijayanagar police, who received the complaint of abduction by his wife, brought him to Bengaluru on Thursday. The police are now contemplating action against the man.

According to the police, a woman identified as Alamelu filed a complaint with the Vijayanagar police here that her husband, Vijay Kumar, who works as manager for Lakshmi Gold Palace in Mysuru, had been abducted and tortured for the past three days. The jewellery chain is owned by K.P. Nanjundi. The police rushed to Mysuru to find Vijaya Kumar at the office, along with other senior staff of the company who were questioning him about the missing gold valuables.

The police brought back Vijaya Kumar and a detailed verification of the facts found that he had reportedly stolen over 40 grams of gold jewels and had confessed to the management that he would return the jewels soon. A police officer said that Vijay Kumar had asked his wife to file a kidnap case against Mr. Nanjundi.

Investigation so far revealed that Vijay Kumar had misused three gold chains, worth ₹1.8 lakh, along with ₹18,000 so that he could invest the money and make profit. “Vijaya Kumar had also misused 10 gold coins from the showroom while he was working in its Malleswaram branch,” the official said.

“There was no evidence to prove that Vijay Kumar was abducted and the complaint was concocted to misuse the police,” M.N. Anucheth, Deputy Commissioner of Police said, adding that the police are contemplating booking a case against Alamelu and Vijaya Kumar under perjury.

Meanwhile representatives of the company told the police that it was Vijaya Kumar and his wife who pleaded with them not to file a police complaint after he confessed to the theft.
