Kanakapura tahsildar Yoganand and his team had a harrowing time when the driver of an earth-moving machine (JCB) allegedly tried to mow down their car at Thattekere village on Tuesday.

Yoganand, a revenue inspector and a few other officials left for Thattekere in a car after being alerted that an illegal sand-filtering unit was operating in a private plot in the village. They spotted a JCB digging the earth to collect mud to filter and sell as sand.

Upon noticing their car approaching, the JCB driver allegedly tried to crush them. Sensing danger, the officials got off the car and began to pelt stones at the JCB driver.

The driver, later identified as Ganesh, abandoned the JCB and fled from the spot. He was caught later and handed over to the Harohalli police.

A senior police officer from Ramanagara police district said, “In the evening, the tahsildar gave a complaint that the JCB driver had tried to obstruct him from doing his duty.”
